Every tyre retreaded saves 68 litres of oil and 44 kg of rubber over the production of a new tyre.
For casings that cannot be retreaded, and old rubber removed during the manufacturing process, a robust waste stream is in place. A recent project involving one of Bandvulc's fleet customers, a crumb rubber processor and a manufacturer of recycled rubber products has resulted in that fleet's own waste tyres being used for speed ramps in its supermarket car parks.

Monckton Rubber Technologies (MRT) is one of Europe's leading producers of high quality rubber granulates, made from end-of-life waste car, truck and bus tyres.
MRT based in Sheffield, can receive up to 40,000 tonnes of tyres per year. These end-of-life tyres go through a process called Total Tyre Recycling. The process shreds and granulates waste tyres; it extracts and cleans tyre wire;it seperates out tyre fibre and other by-products - and athe result is high quality rubber crumb.
MRT uses magnet stations along the production line to extract wire from the rubber crumb. The extracted wire is repeatedly cleaned until it achieves a standard high enough to become a saleable commodity in its own right. The wire is sold to customers loose in quantities to suit their needs.
MRT has developed additional secondary processes in order to manage all tyre-derived materials, and these products are being introduced to new and existing markets.
